Christmas sugar cookies decorated with all natural candies and white icing!!!  They are soooo good!!  Light airy cookie recipe I got from All recipes and tweaked it.

  • 1 cup butter ( I always use organic unsalted)
  • 1 cup white sugar ( I use homemade organic vanilla sugar)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  1. In a large bowl, mix together butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; gradually stir flour mixture into butter mixture until well blended using a sturdy spoon. Chill dough for 2 hours.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters. Place cookies 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  3. Bake for 5 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove cookies from pan and cool on wire racks.

Icing:

  • 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 5 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Add candies to your liking, I really like the crushed candy canes I used, they came in 6 flavors!

Directions

In a large bowl, cream together the confectioners’ sugar and shortening until smooth. Gradually mix in the milk and vanilla with an electric mixer until smooth and stiff, about 5 minutes.
